Monday Meet the Author: Ben Mariner

March 14, 2016

Hello Lovelies,

I have been enjoying randomly having authors on the blog, but I have decided to make this a regular gig for ya'll. Welcome to the first Meet the Author Monday! Our guest author today is Ben Mariner and we are going to have a very entertaining interview!

Lets dive right in!

What is the current book you are promoting?

Right now I’m promoting the first two books in my Apocalypse Wow series, Apocalypse Wow and Apocalypse Wow 2: Apocalypse Wower. The series is about a guy who meets a girl, falls for her, and then sleeps through the apocalypse. When he wakes up, she’s missing, so he decides to set off on a post-apocalyptic road trip with his friends. Both books are chalk full of humor and 90’s pop culture references that should tickle both your funny bone and your sense of nostalgia.

I remember seeing your cover on a discussion on Goodreads and knew I just had to read the books. These covers are great, aren't they folks!

If you could have your book made into a movie, who would you want to direct it?

Man, that’s a good question. Everyone always wants to know who the actors would be never the director. If I had my choice, I’d probably say Kevin Smith. A lot of the scenes in these books are really driven by inane dialogue about the minutiae of everyday life, and a lot of Kevin Smith’s movies are like that as well. I think he’d do the book justice.

You know, reading your story concepts, I totally agree with you. I think Kevin Smith would be perfect to direct the movie! We should start a campaign!

What is your next project?

Well, since Apocalypse Wow is out and AW2 is coming on 4/1, I suppose the next step is finishing the series. I’ve already got a few chapters down. Who knows if they’ll stay that way, but it’s a start. That’ll probably be a 2017 release though.

Glad to have something to look forward to in 2017!

What is one thing you hate about being a writer?

One of the things I hate the most is the way everyone just thinks you can create something out of nothing on command. If something needs to be written, they come to you. We all have our niches in writing. Just because you can’t figure out how to word a memo, doesn’t mean I can do it better. I write books about the apocalypse, how does that translate to drafting emails?

An excellent question!

What is your favorite word?

Superfluous. It’s just fun to say.

I agree, superfluous is a great word! Thank you so much for joining us today! I have added Ben's books to my TBR, so look forward to seeing those reviews here!

Want to learn more about Ben?

Ben Mariner is the award winning author of the Apocalypse Wow series, though all of those awards were self-presented. He has also written The Many Lives of Zane Montgomery which some people definitely read. When not writing, Ben can be found searching the globe for the lost city of Atlantis or attempting to break the record for most consecutive hours spent doing nothing in particular. He is an avid consumer of useless knowledge, a staunch supporter of not eating vegetables ever, and knows every single word to Will Smith’s 1997 album Big Willie Style. And, no, that’s not a joke.

You can follow him on his blog

As fun as this interview has been, I bet he shares some great stuff on social media!
