Enough news, let's get to the interview!
Hello Cassie and welcome to the Angell's Life!
What is the current book you are promoting?
Finding Bliss, the first book in The Bliss Series. This series will be based on a little fictional town in North Carolina called Bliss.
Who is your favorite character in your book and why?
Oh, wow. It's hard to choose between my main characters, Clara and Grey. I'd have to go with Grey, though, if it really comes down to it. I love a good alpha male in books I read, but for Finding Bliss, my hero needed to have that with a whole lot of sweetness, too. Grey has that in spades.
When Clara and Grey first meet, he sees a fragility inside her. He becomes her confidant, her protector...her friend. He helps guide Clara to be better, to come out of her shell and look at the world with new eyes. He stays by her side and encourages her to want more from life, to be better, and to fight for things she never thought possible.
In my mind, Grey is a warrior, a champion... Clara's champion.
Wow, sounds a lot better than certain controlling manipulative males in some recently popular romance books!
What inspired this book?
The idea for Finding Bliss began after seeing a story in the media. I won't name names, but a story broke about a brother molesting his sisters at a young age. This made me wonder about the sisters and how they were coping and would cope long term. It's hard to give more information about this without giving too much of my book away. But that was just the beginning of Finding Bliss and it transformed into something so much more than I initially imagined. There's a lot of heartache, but like the blurb says, Finding Bliss is a story about redemption, love, and finding true, irrevocable bliss.
What is your next project?
I'm currently writing the next book in The Bliss Series titled Fated Bliss. The story is centered around Samantha, Grey's sister. Samantha is a sarcastic and witty heroine, but she has a heart of gold, like her brother. I'm really enjoying writing her because she takes me out of my comfort zone. You're in for a lot of surprises, too.
Who is your favorite fictional character and why?
Definitely Jamie Fraser from the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. I stumbled across Outlander about ten years ago, I believe, and the story (the entire series actually) did what books should do: transports you to a different time and place. I fell in love with all of the characters, but Jamie enamored me. He was strong and capable, standing for what he believes no matter the consequence. His love for his wife was awe-inspiring, as well. There wasn't a battle he wouldn't face for her. Diana Gabaldon outdid herself when she wrote Jamie. He's everything an H should be.
How do you write your books?
There isn't a set process that I have when I write. I start out with an idea and the story flows from there. I have no idea what's going to happen, what trials my characters will face, or even how it will end when I begin. In a sense, the stories write themselves; I'm just the vessel in which the come from.
