So I have this story kind of beating around in my head. It (once again) goes outside my normal genre. Part of me keeps shushing the characters, because I am working on the Infection story, and the launch for The Hunted, and I have a lot on my plate.
"But Heidi," Isabella whispers gently. "I promise I won't take up much of your time. Just a short novelette, PLEASE!!!!"
I know she is kind of lying to me, because I keep getting glimpses of about five different novelletes.
"Well, sure, but you don't have to write them all right now. Just the one. Just the first story."
"But I don't write romance!" I demand.
"But maybe you should!" she insists coyly. "Nice, clean, modern romance. There's an audience in your community that would be interested. I'm sure of it."
What can I say, Isabelle is very... determined. And she could be right. If she is, then I want to provide that for you. Here is the intro to her story:
Isabelle was raised by a single mother out East (she still hasn't told me where) in the big city. She fought her way through school and has a successful marketing job, and thinks her long-term boyfriend (who's father owns the firm) is going to propose.
In one week, her world falls apart. She gets dropped from her top account, her boyfriend is caught
cheating, and she gets a mysterious letter that she is the sole beneficiary of Dancing River Ranch, which she learns was owned by her father, whom she had never met. Thinking to take a quick break, settle the Will, and put the property up for sale, she figures the break will give her time to reassess her relationship.
But when she sees Dancing River, and meets the ranch manager Kyle, her plans to return "home" get delayed.
What do you think? Would you read this?
